lo all.. been a while i know..
right. the illusive art of play building.. according to http://www.hartbeatensemble.org/HartBeat/Hip%20Hop%20Theater.html , when building a play.. without a script, improv does come into it..
1. a "burning issue" has to be decided on.
2. then the general action of the play begins to develop,
3. the group then focuses on the visual, vocal and physical world in which the characters live. basically this means deciding on the who, when, where, why and how. all of these elements are mandatory for a good play. each actor should then be able to grasp their character on these key facts.
4. Dialogue is the last element added to this process.
All of these can ultimately be driven by rhythm, movement and poetry.
